In my therapy sessions I come from a place of compassion and highlight the strengths that people have, translating that into successful strategies that they can use to make positive changes.
I use creative ways to connect with clients and their families in session. These strategies include art, role-playing, mindfulness exercises, videos, and giving interactive "homework" to do between sessions.
I specialize in working with individuals, children, and teens struggling with:
ADHD, anxiety, depression, autism, self-esteem, adjustment issues, grief and loss, behavioral problems,
divorce, and trauma.
Extensive experience working with families on: improving their relationships, learning better communication skills, utilizing mindfulness, and changing negative behaviors.

I have been seeing children (ages 3-18), families and doing group therapy as a Child & Family Therapist with Kaiser in the Sacramento, CA area for over 27 years. As well I have had a private practice working with adults, children, teens and families for the last 20 years.
Being married to a Filipino man and having bi-racial children has allowed me a unique perspective as a therapist. I have worked with a variety of different ethnicities, family configurations, LGBTQ+ community, and different socio-economic populations and tailor my therapy to honor these perspectives.
My hope is to help individuals and families tap into strengths that they may not see and give them strategies to help them be successful and move them in the right direction with positive outcomes.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family (husband +
3 grown daughters), my 3 dogs, cat, doing arts and crafts, taking cooking classes, going to the movies, live theater, and country music concerts.

Under the law, health care providers are required to give clients who lack insurance or are not utilizing insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and other mental health support services.
We strive to be as transparent as possible about our service fees and the various services we offer. If you ever have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact Julie Camina, LCSW at juliecaminalcsw@gmail.com.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services like child therapy and mental health support.
You can request your therapist for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling a service or at any point during your treatment.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill. Be sure to keep a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

The length of therapy is varied depending on the situation. Typically someone will be seen for 6-8 sessions and then may occasionally come back for a "tune up".
I feel it is important to have parent/caregiver involvement regularly in therapy with their child. For a child under 12 I will check in with a parent/caregiver each session. For a teen I will check in at least every other session.
It is recommended that therapy sessions be conducted in a quiet, private location away from distractions from others. Sessions WILL NOT be conducted in a moving car, even if the client is a child.
It is imperative that when meeting with the child/teen alone they have privacy to speak freely without fear of a parent/caregiver listening in.
The frequency of therapy sessions will be based on the clinician's clinical judgement but typically will be every 2 weeks. This allows time for the client/family to practice skills they are working on between sessions.
If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment you will be charged the 1/2 session rate ($75) for the first cancellation. Future cancellations less than 24 hours will be charged at the full session rate ($150). If you fail to keep your appointment you will be charged for your full session rate ($150).
What is discussed in therapy is confidential between the therapist and the client including the child/teen. Things that are outside of confidentiality include if there is a concern of danger to self, danger to others, or danger to a child or elderly. In that case as a mandated reporter Julie Camina, LCSW is obligated to notify the proper authorities which may include the police, Child Protective Services, or Adult Protective Services.
